Ireland is a great place to visit if you’re into two things: pubs and ruins. Since almost
everything "Irish" was burned or ransacked by the Vikings, Normans, or English most of the
key sites stand in ruins. We've organized pictures from our five trips by geographic location:
Northern Ireland - We visited Northern Ireland in June 2004. It was fantastic. The roads
are great and the sites definitely rival those of the south. Pictures on the site include:
Ballycastle, Giant’s Causeway/Causeway Coast, Bushmills Whiskey Factory, Portstewart and
Londonderry.
NW Ireland – We took a short trip through the NW of Ireland in June 2004. We spent a
few hours in Donegal then went on to stay at a fantastic inn called Smugglers Creek in
Rossnowlagh – where we also caught site of a surfing lesson!
Galway – Galway is a MUST for visitors. Galway itself is a great town with great food, music
and atmosphere. During our June 2004 trip we stayed a night in Galway and also visited
Cong. Cong is where the Quite Man was filmed, it also is the home of Ashford castle.
The Midlands - The Midlands make up the central part of Ireland. This is the part of the
country Alan and I have yet to fully explore. In August 2003 we visited the Rock of Cashel
and in June 2004 we visited Clonmacnoise.
Dublin City – Dublin is Alan’s home town. We’ve included pictures from most of the major
sites.
SE Ireland – We have visited the SE of Ireland a few times. It is close enough to Dublin for
a day trip or you can venture to Kilkenny for a night of great pubs and Irish traditional
music. Photos include Powerscourt Waterfall, Glendalough, Ardmore Round Tower, and
Kilkenny Night Life and Castle.
County Cork – Cork has much more to offer than Blarney castle. The Cork mountains rival
the sites of the Ring of Kerry (and aren’t flooded with tour buses). We visited Cork in the
Summer of 2003. Photos include Blarney Castle, Youghal clock tower, Timoleague Abbey
and Skibbereen (home town of Michael Collins).
County Kerry – Kerry is one of the more popular destinations in Ireland. Alan and I visited
Dingle over Christmas 2001 and we then visited Kemare and the Ring of Kerry over the
Summer of 2003.
Clare and Limerick – Alan and I took our first trip to the country in the Summer of 2000
to Clare and Limerick. We love Ennis. Other photos include the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty
Castle and Limerick Castle.
